This post is in response to an entry on Tim Erlin’s blog
I have actually talked to MPR as well as a German Public Radio station called ‘Einslive’ that I like about streaming formats. MPR used to offer an XMMS/iTunes compatible stream as well as Real and Windows Media. For now they eliminated all other formats except for their Continue reading The Music-Streaming Dilemma

Ooopsiegooglies
The new Google Video online store came up at our latest GGM. Wish I had cached a version of their front page from that day. Turns out they spruced it up on Tuesday after a month of flat-lining (maybe because their most exciting offer accessible by one click from the front page was MacGyver). It was so bad they even came out and publicly said they made a big mistake.
The Joy of Tech
I noticed that some of you are not familiar with The Joy of Tech, yet. I enjoy their comics on a regular basis and would recommend you take a look. Here are a couple of links to my most recent favorites: Macworld 2006 – Macbook Pro? – IntelInside
Facebook? Face Unemployment
We were discussing MySpace at the last Geek Gather, and the potential effect that this (largely) youth culture’s MySpace content will have on their future professional aspirations. Well, Facebook is not MySpace, but it’s a similar idea. Looks like it’s already a reality in some cases:
[Someone important] “said employers will find content they determine to be less than professional or inappropriate, and many students do not realize the consequences.”
Students, please, don’t drink and post!
dyne:bolic – The multimedia OS
dyne:bolic is a bootable linux cd built for multimedia. That means you can run it without installing anything. This means you can turn any PC/Mac into a multimedia editing machine without installing a new OS on it. If you’re into text, you can even stream ascii video on the web with dyne:bolic. Gives you that matrix feel for real.
And it’s optimized for old hardware:
“This operating system is designed to run on a minimum of Pentium 1 MMX processor with at least 64MB of RAM (memory), not even an harddisk is needed. It can be used to stream online radio with a Pentium 2 400MHZ or a Xbox game console, all very cheap on the second hand market.”
Oh, if you try it out, post a comment.
Cool iTunes Album Browsing with Coverflow
iTunes Geeks,
Check out Coverflow. This thing is da bomb. Needs a little bit of polishing but is definitely a lot of fun.
bandwidth consumption of streaming music server
Anyone know how much bandwidth a music server like the roku m500 takes up and whether they take up bandwidth when idle? Since installing the second one, I can no longer video or audio chat and I’m wondering if it’s getting in the way… Come to think of it, it’s also been since installing 10.4.4

Let’s make this thing public
Geeks,
Even though we are still working on some details of the blog, I’d like to propose to go public (meaning inviting the rest of the mailing list). It seems that we are already making good use of it, and therefore a broader audience would be wonderful. Any objections? Michael, do you still have the mailing list?
