VHS to DVD

I’m thinking of converting a bunch of old sentimental VHS tapes to DVD for my parents for Christmas.
Anyone have a suggestion for the in-between converter or have one I could possibly borrow?

I’d be going from VHS to firewire in a Mac.  I just want to convert the video into a new format and keep all the raw footage for maybe a project down the road.

Simple and cost-effective are both at the top of my list.

  1. In a little bit of searching I found the following: http://www.canopus.com/products/ADVC55/index.php which appears to take S-video and/or composite video plus stereo audio. Output is Firewire. OSX and Windows compatible.

Looks to be your best bet. It comes recommended via the AVID (Pro-video editing stuff) forums. No drivers required, just hook it up and use with “Compatible with leading editing and DVD authoring applications including
    Grass Valley EDIUS, Canopus Let’s EDIT 2, Vegas®, Final Cut Pro®, iMovie®,
Avid Xpress® DV, Adobe® Premiere® Pro, Avid Liquidâ„¢, Ulead® MediaStudio® Pro, and Windows Movie Maker”

$230 direct from the manufacturer. Found as low as $174 via Froogle.
